Delivering greener Graphite

Blencowe Resources Plc has signed a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with European specialist graphite processing organisation Alkeemia S.P.A. (“Alkeemia”) to provide toll beneficiation and purification services for graphite produced from the Orom-Cross project in Uganda.

The graphite would be processed at a plant being developed by Alkeemia in Italy, delivering cleaner purified graphite than conventional Chinese processing routes and providing Blencowe with an alternative downstream pathway outside China.

The Company believes that establishing a European-based purification and toll treatment pathway also opens up potential access to European funding initiatives, where local processing, traceable supply chains and reduced reliance on Chinese-controlled processing routes are increasingly important criteria.

Blencowe is an exclusive supplier of natural flake graphite into the EU SAFELOOP initiative, which is part of the European Union’s €100 billion Project Horizon energy transition programme, further strengthening the Company’s positioning within European battery and energy transition supply chains.

DFC Funding

Orom-Cross is the first pre-production graphite project globally to receive funding support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

Partnering with DFC allows Blencowe to retain full project equity while gaining backing from a U.S. government agency focused on critical minerals and energy transition. DFC has committed a US$5M Technical Assistance Grant (September 2023) to support DFS costs, with potential for further project funding.

Project SAFELOOP

The EU-funded SAFELOOP project is advancing EV battery safety across the full lifecycle, bringing together 15 organisations from 11 countries.

SAFELOOP‘s primary goal is to elevate the safety, sustainability, and performance of European Gigafactory scale LIB cells, aligning with the EUCAR Hazard Level 3 standards for mobility applications. This entails pioneering material innovations to improve battery safety, performance, and lifespan, with a target of achieving a 15% increase in cyclability by 2030 and doubling operational lifetime compared to 2019 levels.

Blencowe joined SAFELOOP in 2024 with exclusivity for supplying natural flake graphite, supported by Orom-Cross achieving 99.99% purity in testwork by US specialist AETC, which has also opened further niche offtake opportunities including with the US Department of Defence.

Net-Zero

Blencowe Resources is committed to delivering Green Graphite, working to become a blueprint for sustainable mining practices.

As part of commitment to delivering a ‘greener’ solution Orom-Cross is actively developing relationships and partnerships for the introduction of a mine-site Light Vehicle fleet composed of +90% electric vehicles, including a smaller wheel loader fleet comprised entirely of EVs and a logistics fleet composed of long-distance electric Prime Movers. Additionally, we are exploring solutions for electric drying of graphite, dry tailings and many other net-zero initiatives.

Blencowe also works with other leading graphite specialists to enhance product quality and expand market opportunities.

American Energy Technology (AETC) – US-based technical expert in all matters graphite and working closely with Blencowe on product testing, new markets and offtakers.

Alkeemia S.P.A – Graphite expert with purification facilities in Italy, working with Blencowe to upgrade Orom-Cross products for sales into specialist markets.
